Tell us about you .
I'm a full time photographer, wife to my sexy husband of 16 years, and mom of 3. I've been a professional photographer for 8 years, going exclusively boudoir at the end of this year.
When did you learn photography ?
I started dabbling with photography in 2008 when my husband got me a Canon Rebel XSi for my birthday. I just wanted to take nicer photos of my kids, but it quickly became an obsession. I started out photographing kids and families, added weddings in 2010 and shot my first boudoir client in 2011. I quickly fell in love with boudoir photography and the joy in making other women feel beautiful.
Whose work has infuenced you most ?
Ewan Phelan of Do More Wear Less (formerly The Last Forty Percent, when I fell in love with his style of boudoir). I attended a DMWL workshop in 2013 that made a large impact on the direction of my business and boudoir style.
How do you educate yourself to grow in your art ?
I try to attend a boudoir workshop/conference/retreat once a year. I love networking and talking shop with others in the boudoir industry. There's always more to learn. I also make it a point to be photographed by another photographer about once a year as well. Being vulnerable on the other side of the camera is a great learning experience.
What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
There there is SO much more to being a professional photographer than taking a pretty picture. The behind the scenes of your business, booking, pricing, selling, products... all that fun stuff you have to figure out on your own. And customer service is just as important, if not more so, than producing a beautiful image.
What kind of gear do you use?
For boudoir, I shoot with a Canon 5d mark iii and Sigma 35 mm 1.4 Art lens, occasionally video light for fill. That is all. :)
