1. Tell us about you.
My hubby and two boys and I live on a small farm in
north-central Oklahoma. We raise cattle, goats, rabbits and mice........
Just kidding about the rabbits and mice, although they multiply like crazy in my flowerbeds and
our barn lol. We both work outside of the home, so our farm is our place to relax
and try to teach our boys a little something about agriculture. I love flower
gardening, watching the cattle and goats, and photographing our life.. My hubby
jokes that he doesn't know what he would do if he didn't have me to document his
life :).. He loves me though!
2. When did you learn photography ?
Oh, I starting researching and reading every
blog and forum that I could find along with stalking lots of photographers online
about 6 years ago. It takes time though, you know what I mean.. I started out
editing with picnik online, lots of over editing and eye popping lol! My first dslr was
an olympus, which I leaned to shoot manual on and then I upgraded to the Canon
5D Mark II, now that was an amazing day!!!
5. Whose work has influenced you most ?
I have followed so many photographers
through the years but I would say that the beautiful lady that has influenced me the
most is Sarah with My Four Hens Photography. I have followed her work for
a long time, she is absolutely amazing.
4. How do you educate yourself to grow in your art ?
I used to spend a lot of time
reading in forums, Clickinmoms is one of the main forums that I spent a lot of time
in. We are so busy now at work and at home that I don’t have a lot of free time, and
I also don't want to spend the evenings on the computer. When I see something
that I want to learn about, I usually google it or watch youtube videos and also
network with other photographer friends. Recently I struggled with editing my
under water images, so I visited with my sweet friend Amanda Burr, who is an
amazing photographer and also watched youtube videos on editing. There are so
many resources out there for photographers!
5. What is the one thing you wish you knew when you
started taking photos?
When my youngest was born I was
so stuck on trying to get the perfect newborn shots
with props and all of that jazz that I didn't photograph the
everyday.. So I missed out on a lot of little memory shots,
and I regret that now.. The everyday images, with the boys
and their goats or with their Dad and Bpa are my favorites
and probably the ones that we will cherish the most. Life is
short and we need to enjoy every minute of it.
6. What kind of gear do you use? I love my Canon 5D
Mark II and 24mm 1.4L Canon lens. I also have a GoPro
Hero 4 with a Dome Case that I use for underwater photography.
